FOREWORD

In the last few years we have witnessed a paradigm shift in our concept and management of coronary disease. Space-age technologies provide exquisite cardiac imaging, we use immediate revascularization in patients with acute coronary events, and at a molecular and cellular level we are investigating a new world of gene and cell therapy designed to promote vascular and myocardial repair. Epidemiology and prevention have been transformed by new understandings and new drugs which promise to impact dramatically on the incidence of disease.
This book presents chapters based on material presented at ICCAD6 - the 6th International Congress on Coronary Artery Disease, held in Istanbul, Turkey, on October 29 – November 1, 2005. We thank most sincerely the Congress faculty and participants who spent long hours preparing chapters for this publication and the Medimond International Proceedings Division for their excellent and efficient publication procedures.
